When One Hood Closes, Another Opens
“You helped me get a good education and earn a diploma in Automobile Engineering. ”
-Najesh
Najesh tucks a wrench in his front pocket, closing the car hood in satisfaction. Turning the key, it roars to life - fixed, repaired, and in better condition than when it arrived in his shop. Just like Jesus did with Najesh’s life. He loves to work in peace under a hood, alone with his thoughts as he puts each part back in it’s proper place. His mind often wanders to his memories growing up in the red-light district—a place not designed for the innocence of childhood.
He and his sister were raised by a single mother who worked in the sex trade and suffered from HIV. The burden of caring for himself and his sister fell solely on Najesh when his mother passed away because of her disease. The loss was devastating and left them without a caregiver to meet their basic needs and support their education.
When Najesh and his sister came to live at our safe house they were malnourished, weak, uneducated, and traumatized. Through time, love, and gentleness Najesh started to open up and trust again. Because of sponsorship, Najesh received monthly support that gave him the education, healthcare, food, and basic necessities for life at the safe house.
He was tutored and eventually went to a great school where he discovered his talent for dismantling and putting things back together that led to his career as an automobile engineer.
Najesh finds order in the inner workings of machines. Every hushed purr of an engine or resolved rattle beneath a chassis is a victory for Najesh. His life was a scrapyard in which God took the broken pieces and welded him into a young man who is now balanced, content, and succeeding.
