Steeped In History
Forty years ago, India Partners was officially formed, but our roots trace back to the compassionate actions of a young pastor, Pastor Babu.

Raised in an orphanage in India, he and his wife opened their home to care for other orphaned children. As their modest home reached its limits, they sought support to build an orphanage. In 1972 Marietta and Ernie O’Byrne received a letter from Pastor Babu and their hearts were captivated by his mission. This led to the construction of an orphanage and eventually the foundation of a child sponsorship program in 1984, which continues today.

Among those inspired by the mission was Brent Hample, who, after spending six weeks at the orphanage in 1987, dedicated his life to reaching out the people of India. His fundraising efforts expanded sponsorship and lead to the construction of schools, a sewing center for young women, a medical center, and clean water initiatives.

By 1994, the expansion led to the official incorporation of India Partners as a nonprofit organization. Over time, in addition to a growing sponsorship program, India Partners gained new partners and began supplying clean water to remote villages, providing safety, rescue, and care to women and children in the red-light districts, giving vocational training that empowers women, providing economic development for the poor and marginalized, providing bibles to new Christians, educating children in poverty, and so much more.

What started with a heart of compassion, driven by generous donations, support, and prayers, continues to alleviate poverty, bring the good news of Jesus, and transform lives in India. This 40th Anniversary newsletter is an invitation to celebrate with us the significant difference your contributions make in the lives of many and will continue to make for years to come.
