Shabana’s Journey of Freedom from The Red-Light District to A Business Owner
Breathing deeply, Shabana savors the smell of dosa from the sizzling pan. It's a symbol of her new life...
Though the fire is hot, she shivers as the memories of her past life surface. A tear slips down her cheek, a mixture of grief and gratitude.
At a tender age of just 12, Shabana left her village to help support her family. The promise of a job in Mumbai quickly turned into a tragedy as her cousin forced her into the sex trade.
The days blurred together, each one a never-ending nightmare. As months turned to years she became numb to the abuse she endured daily. When our partners met Shabana and told her they could give her an education and a future, the decision was immediate.
Because of your gifts to provide days of safety, Shabana was able to leave the red-light district and find safety, rescue, and care. You gave her medical care, counseling, an education, and even supplied the necessary training, tools and resources to start her own food business!
Today, as Shabana watches her dosa sizzle and bubble, she knows that she is free and that she has a purpose. It reminds her of how far she has come and how thankful she is for your support. Without your generosity, Shabana would never have been able to leave the sex trade.
Thank you for giving women and children in the red-light districts days of safety, rescue, and care!
