Durga carefully pushed the soft fabric under the presser foot of her tailoring machine. The delicate cotton slid smoothly as the needle stitched an even, precise seam. Her hands, now adept after countless hours of practice, guided the material with assurance. 

For Durga and her family, life was a fight against poverty. Her husband, Pappu, worked as a daily-wage laborer in a small shop, but his income was barely enough to cover their rent, their sons’ education, and basic household expenses. Watching her children struggle to thrive motivated Durga to seek a way to contribute. She wanted to do her part to build a better life for her family, but the options were few.

Happy for the chance to create a future beyond survival, Durga enrolled in our tailoring school with enthusiasm. Over the next six months, she learned how to stitch 150 clothing designs—from simple alterations to intricate pieces. The practical, hands-on training built her confidence, and the supportive guidance of her instructor assured she mastered each step. The day she graduated, holding the tailoring machine she was gifted, Durga knew this was her turning point.

Now, Durga works from home, stitching garments for friends, neighbors, and relatives. These efforts have allowed her to support her elder son, who is studying engineering in college, and her younger son, who is excelling in his 10th-grade studies.

“When I look at my sewing machine, I’m reminded of how my life has changed,” Durga shares with a grateful smile. “I owe this second chance to generous donors who believed in empowering women like me. Because of their support, my family has hope and stability. Thank you for giving me a way to build a better future.”
