Lakshmi’s Story
Just 22 years old, Lakshmi’s path has been anything but easy. Two years ago, she married with hopes of partnership and love.
Instead, she found herself trapped in a cycle of fear and violence. Her husband’s abuse left her trembling, not only for her own safety but that of her baby daughter, just 10 months old.
She remembers countless nights questioning her worth, questioning her future. “How will I survive? How will I protect my daughter? I have no job, no education…nothing.”
Hope entered her life when Lakshmi met our partners in India who offered her free tuition to a tailoring school. Because of your generosity, Lakshmi saw a way to provide for her and her daughter. It wasn’t easy—the early days were filled with self-doubt. She had never worked a sewing machine, and her confidence was shattered after years of abuse.
Under the guidance of compassionate instructors, Lakshmi discovered how to transform simple pieces of fabric into dresses, baby clothes, and vibrant sarees that her community loved.
The turning point came the day she held her very own sewing machine—a gift made possible by selfless donors like you. It wasn’t just a tool for tailoring; this was her ticket to independence. Working from home, Lakshmi now earns enough to support herself and her daughter. She no longer fears the uncertainty of tomorrow.
“I wake up every morning knowing my daughter and I are safe,” Lakshmi shared. Her voice, once shaky, is now filled with quiet confidence. “You gave me a chance to make an honest living. You gave me a chance to live without fear.”
You gave Lakshmi a tailoring class, a sewing machine, and the support system she so desperately needed. Thank you!
