Eliza's Long Walk For Water Is Over
Thirteen-year-old Eliza turned to wave goodbye to her mother, her dark hair flowing behind her as she hurried to catch up with her two younger sisters on their way to school

Her giggles floated in the morning air, mingling with the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves.

Not long ago, Eliza’s mornings looked very different.

Every day began in the twilight hours, well before sunrise. Alongside her mother, Eliza would make the grueling two-kilometer walk to a neighboring village to collect water. The process was exhausting.

Each trip to collect water came at a cost. Entire days of school were missed so she could ensure her family had what they needed to survive. Her dreams of learning were slipping further and further out of reach with every heavy step she took.

Because of you, a clean water well now stands in Eliza’s village, just a short walk from her home. Clean, safe water is no longer a distant luxury.

Instead of trudging to a faraway stream, she starts her mornings buckling her sandals, ready to walk her sisters to school. Her hands, once carried heavy buckets, now hold pencils and books.

This morning was a victory, as Eliza waved goodbye to her mother on her way to school.

Thanks to you, Eliza’s future is no longer hindered by water scarcity. Now, she has time to learn, grow, and dream.

From Eliza’s family, her village, and all of us who witnessed this transformation—thank you. Your kindness has profoundly changed lives.
