Abaas' Journey To Literacy
When Abaas first walked into our slum school at the age of 12, his world was as fragile as the makeshift shanties that lined the crowded streets around him.
His family, like many others in the slums, made their home out of scraps, moving frequently in search of work. The constant uprooting meant that education was never a priority.
For a young boy like Abaas, the weight of illiteracy was heavy. His friends laughed at him for not being able to read or write.
One evening, Abaas went home and made a decision that would change his life. “I will try my best to learn anything I can,” he told himself. That moment of resolve became the foundation for an amazing transformation.
At our school, Abaas found teachers who believed in him. They stayed after hours, guiding and tutoring, patiently repeating the basics until Abaas could finally write his name.
Then, night after night, Abaas would sit in his small corner of their shanty home, studying.
Today, Abaas can read and write with confidence—just like his peers. His transformation from a boy who couldn’t recognize the alphabet to a proud, literate young man is because of your generosity!
Because of you, children in the slums of India are discovering a brighter future—one filled with hope, dignity, and possibilities!
