EFICOR
A Brief History
EFICOR (Evangelical Fellowship of India Commission on Relief) began in 1967 as a unit of the Evangelical Fellowship of India when a drought that year caused severe famine in the state of Bihar. The members of the EFI responded to the need by raising money through an appeal in their official magazine. In 1971, India was flooded with refugees from neighboring East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The international community wanted a local agency through which they could act. EFICOR was asked to be that channel and an EFI Committee on Refugees was established.
In 1980 EFICOR, became independent of EFI, establishing itself as a separate nonprofit organization. Since that time EFICOR has moved from relief to development, from resourcing to capacity-building, and from motivating evangelicals to networking with them.
