A School Lunch...
Care to try going without lunch tomorrow? And the day after that? How about all month?
Rajeswari is nine years old. When she was just a baby, her father died in an accident. This left her mother, Swarupa, to fend for the two of them. Unskilled, Swarupa went from home to home and washed people's clothes to earn their daily food. As Rajeswari grew, she really wanted to go to school to study and play like the other children she saw, but she had to help her mother wash clothes.
A teacher at Karunamaya Elementary School learned about Rajeswari through some of the other children. The teacher found the young girl, brought her to the school, and gave her a slate tablet and some books. Karunamaya participates in India Partners' Hungry Child Project which provides a nutritious lunch every day for needy school children. So now, Rajeswari receives a healthy meal along with a good education! The Hungry Child Project is making the difference in the life of Rajeswari and dozens of other children in the program.
